    New Party Hunt Ballot System:
Due to popular demand, we are trialing a ballot system to secure your spot. Simply register yourself for a 'ballot ticket' and the party hunt organiser will draw these and inform registrants within a couple of weeks of opening the event up. Please wait for the organiser to contact you. This aims to keep registration fair, between members who are active on their phone or computer during the day and not - typically these events are released without warning.

    About the Rusa hunt:
6x beds available in the hut, first in first served. For those camping make sure you bring a good sleeping bag and sleeping mat, as it will get cold.

    2. Running water, shower and BBQ available at the hut.
    3. Species include Red and Rusa deer.

Bush stalking and lookout hunting available, shots from lookouts range from 100 to 600 meters. Note: No shooting of pigs within a 5km radius of the hut.

So you've been out and put an animal on the ground - now what? How do you break it down, preserving the most amount of meat possible?  How do you skin it ready for making a nice flat skin for the lounge at home?
If you have been struggling with the above answers, this workshop is for you! Sam Ashby and Brent are very kindly putting on a Butchery, Animal and Skin Prep workshop for our members on the 3rd of July at 7:00PM at our Club Rooms.
Richard, from Gourmet Meats, will kindly be guiding us through the process of breaking down an animal from your hunt. They will cover; skinning a deer to preserve the skin for tanning, breaking down the animal into manageable cuts and muscle groups, as well as letting you know what cuts are best for what usage or cooking scenario.
Spots for this workshop are limited to 20 people, so get in quick and secure your spot - tickets are just $20.

    Range Officer Training 19th & 20th July

Have you ever thought about becoming an NZDA Auckland Branch Range Officer?

Our range is run by club members (like yourself) that volunteer the occasional weekend to keep the gates open and the barrels hot on the mound! We need enthusiastic helpers to put their hand up and commit to the short training course provided at our own club facilities.

This training session is for all new prospective Range Officers as well as an invitation to all current range officers to come and meet the new guys before they are rostered on together and also take the opportunity for a refresher.

What it is to be a Range Officer

Being a Range Officer (RO) is more than just standing around on the Range in an Orange Vest blowing a whistle every 15 to 20 minutes and yelling cease firing.

What we are looking for is a person that has an in-depth knowledge of all types of firearms and shooting competitions, plus the ability to help range users with problems and also people new to shooting.

Most of our current Range Officers run a General Range Day, an event, or competition around 4 to 5 times a year.  We have regular Range Officer meetings to fill in the Roster for the following months so that people can fit in a Range Duty as free time becomes available to them. Changing a rostered time due to and unforeseen event is relatively easy as all RO’s are on the Whats App RO Group so communicating and swapping times with another RO is not an issue.

What we would like to see in an RO Candidate:

    • A keen interest in firearms and shooting.
    • A basic understanding of Range use and requirements.
    • Ability to donate your free time to our Range say 4 to 5 times a year.
    • A desire to run Club events and be involved with a great team of existing RO’s.
    • Being able to manage people and situations in a calm and collected manner.
    • Last but not least being able to enjoy the company of likeminded hunters and shooters.

If you think that you fit the requirements to be a Range Officer we are very interested in hearing from you

Day 1: Friday 19th July 7:00pm - Theory Training Session - Pt Chev Club Rooms

Theory Training Manuals and a copy of the Range Standing Orders will be provided for each candidate.

You will be given an assessment form which covers the arms act, range design as well as various documents pertaining to the course followed by a day on the range to put into practice the RO Training course.

    Day 2: Saturday 20th July 8:30am until complete - NZDA Auckland 50 / 100m Range

Please bring your own note taking materials for both training sessions.

If you have any queries please email auckland@deerstalkers.co.nz

    Thanks,

    NZDA Auckland
