Hi Team,
We’ve got a club hunt coming up that’s a bit different. Scotty has kindly offered to lead a trip into his local "backyard" patch of scrub in the Kaimai Ranges.
While this spot is conveniently close to Auckland, don't let the short drive fool you. This isn't a casual stroll through the bush—it’s quintessential Kaimai hunting.
The Lowdown
* Location: Kaimai Ranges (Specific meetup point provided to confirmed hunters).
* Target: Red deer (Good numbers reported recently).
* Terrain: Very steep, thick, and unforgiving.
Fitness Warning
This hunt is graded as Hard. You will need a high level of fitness and be comfortable navigating steep, challenging faces and dense scrub. If you aren't fond of vertical climbs and "Kaimai Supplejack," this might not be the one for you. However, for those willing to put in the leg work, the deer numbers in this patch are solid.
Recommended gear list to be sent to successful applicants.
Spaces are limited to keep the group manageable in the thick stuff. If you’re fit and keen to get amongst some local venison, please apply online before February 13th.
As we have a high level of interest in party hunts this will be run through a ballot process. 6 names will be drawn out of a total of 20 available tickets for registration.
A DOC permit will be required and a minimum gear list will be sent out to successful applicants. Blaze vests are a minimum requirement for this hunt.
Kind regards,
NZDA Auckland Committee
